This year marks a very special milestone for Prescott Public Library as we celebrate the 50th Anniversary of our beloved library here on Goodwin Street. To commemorate this milestone, we’ve planned a series of exciting events and activities leading up to our big celebration:
Fest in the West on Friday, May 30 from 5-8 pm!
Library Passport Adventure
Celebrate Prescott Public Library’s 50 years on Goodwin Street by collecting ink stamps in your Library Passport Book to commemorate your library adventures. From April 6 – May 30, passports will be available at the Ask a Librarian and Youth desks. Adults and youth can collect stamps from library staff members by completing selected tasks within their Library Passport. On Friday, May 30th from 9 am – 8 pm, visit the library to redeem your passport stamps for raffle tickets. Every two stamps collected will earn 1 raffle ticket to the drawing of your choice. Drawings include prizes for a range of ages and will take place Saturday, May 31. Can’t make it to the library May 30? Two prizes (one for adults and one for youth) will be available for early raffle entries from Sunday, May 25 through Thursday, May 29. Winners will be contacted during the first week of June. This program is presented with funding from Friends of the Prescott Public Library.
Viewerie Display May 1-31
From Thursday, May 1 through Saturday, May 31, visit the library to enjoy a special display in the Viewerie, located on the second floor of the library. This display celebrates the history of the library in Prescott, from reading room, to Carnegie Library, to the public library that we know and love today. This display includes historical tidbits, photos, and various pieces of library memorabilia.
Fest in the West
On Friday, May 30 from 5-8 pm the library will be celebrating our building’s 50th anniversary with a large, after hours celebration for all ages at the library. Enjoy live music, activities for kids and adults including a touch-a-truck event, a community resource fair, and more! Learn more about this event here.
Did You Know?
The City of Prescott has proudly operated a public library since 1917, when the Monday Club deeded the Carnegie Library on Gurley Street to the city, where it provided services for nearly 60 years. It was in the 1970’s that our growing community recognized the need for a larger space. Thanks to the support of a citizen-led fundraising campaign alongside city funding, our current library was constructed and opened its doors in late May 1975. The library was later renovated in 1985 and more significantly in 2005, expanding the building and altering various spaces to better serve the needs of the community.
Your Library Stories
We asked the community to share stories of how Prescott Public Library made a difference in their lives, what they like the most about the library, or simply a memory that took place at the library. For instance, Bobbi shared, “My library has given me many hours of enjoyment by making books on my phone available to me. I am 85 years old, don’t drive, & don’t get around really well, so having my books come to me is such a blessing & joy! Thank you so much for making them available to me!” We received a number of beautiful stories from people of all ages. See what stories were shared with us!
